The 2021 Enlightenment Daily Sutras has come out with something new! There will be access to the calendar through a private "member only" google blog. This blog will have an RSS feed so you can set up your device to get notifications that a post has been made each day. Also providing the potential to comment on how any given quote is inspiring you on a day to day basis becomes possible as well as the opportunity to read other people’s reflections. Using this new feature may lead to inspiring conversations about the quote and the Sutra each day. Essentially, digital access has the potential to turn into a study group for those who are interested in participating! |

Many people have trouble sleeping at night, whether it is falling asleep, or waking up in the middle of the night, and not being able to get back to sleep. Being tired in the day is not ideal, especially if we have active lives and need to be at our best.
The techniques of Ascension are an amazing tool to help us get deep, quality rest and to have mental alertness and energy for our day. We may not even notice it, but each time we use the Art of Ascension Practice the mind stills and the body relaxes. The techniques allow stress to dissolve from the nervous system; fatigue toxins get released from the day, oxygen consumption falls, breath rate lowers and our bodies have a chance for some deep rest. This can lead us into a deep and peaceful sleep. Even if we are not sleeping, but we are using the practice, we are actually still getting all of the rejuvenation we need since ascension gives us twice as much rest as the deepest sleep at night! Therefore, whenever it is difficult to sleep, we can use the Practice. As the body heals itself and releases physical stress, the mind expands beyond those repetitive thoughts that can keep us up at night. This is especially nice to do as we are falling asleep at night and first thing when we wake up in the morning. As we continue to use the practice, we will replace the thousands of thoughts we think each day with an alert and powerful mind based in the present moment, ready to act and create our lives effectively. Daniel Goleman, a science writer twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize got together with Richard Davidson, a professor of psychology and psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Davidson was one of the first researchers to demonstrate neuroplasticity of the brain — its ability to change in response to new information — and has been researching meditation for years.
They looked at 6,000 published peer-reviewed articles about the benefits of meditation. Together they wrote The Science of Meditation: How to Change Your Brain, Mind and Body.

They looked at 6,000 published peer-reviewed articles about the benefits of meditation. Together they wrote The Science of Meditation: How to Change Your Brain, Mind and Body.
These are just some of the findings:
- Benefits emerge in the beginning hours, days, and weeks of meditation.
- “Other payoffs for novices are an increased ability to focus, less mind-wandering, and improved memory,” Goleman says.
- The more hours you meditate over a lifetime, the wider the array of benefits you will notice and the stronger these benefits become.
- With long-term meditators, there was a lower reactivity to stress as well as lessened inflammation.
- For those who think they can’t meditate, you may think, ‘Oh, I can’t control my mind,’ but it’s not about controlling your mind. Meditation brings discipline to the mind.
The authors shared this advice:
- It is important for novice meditators to have a good teacher.
- Go on a retreat where someone can guide you because the data suggests that’s when people make the most measurable progress. “Feedback from a teacher is important because you can get stuck. Even though I’ve meditated for many years, I can still improve” Goleman says.
- A few minutes a day is better than nothing. “Ten minutes in the morning, ten at lunch and ten at night is a good way to start,” he suggests.
Money worries, family issues or health problems may remain, but meditation helps many people to work towards creating an unworried mind.
