Ascension - to Rise Beyond
We live in a gravity field of habits and beliefs that seem to govern our lives. Occasionally we might have a peak experience that briefly opens the doors of perception to a greater reality. But then quickly we are submerged again and find ourselves back in the gravity field. What is real to us is what we have experienced in the past and what we are conditioned to believe to be real. It is all based on the past and based on the interpretations of the mind and the information gathered through the five senses. To rise beyond this situation requires that there has to be an introduction of a new experience, an experience that is not bound by our current level of understanding or way of perceiving reality.
Through ascending one effortlessly reconnects with what we call the Ascendant. Through that connection our lives begin to carry the qualities of the Ascendant. This might first seem small and insignificant because we are not used to perceiving the subtleties but that is where the true power of transformation lies. The peace and stillness seep into the surface experience more and more and give us a platform to see beyond the movements of the world. When we realize that we are as if sitting in a cosmic movie theatre we might relate to the experience a little differently. Our ability to witness increases.
It is not our doing and incessant activity of the mind that gives us freedom from our old ways. If we learn to surrender this process of awakening and rising beyond to the consciousness that has created it all we are well on our way. The true power is in the Ascendant. And our part is to be willing to give our imagined power and control over to that un-manifest part of ourselves. The process of ascending is extremely simple although our lives may not always appear that way. If we are willing to have a new experience and flow with the river of change as it moves in our lives we will quickly find the freedom that we are looking for.
Through this simple process of moving inward with the Ascension Attitudes we culture and enliven the very deepest and purest essence of who we are and bring it closer to the surface awareness. This will result in removing even the most subtle most unconscious programming and belief structure. The more that this new awareness gains ground the easier it is to break out of habitual ways of living life. The innocence and spontaneity become more present and one is able to stay fluid in each moment instead of reverting back to old reactive behavior patterns.

The Pathless Path
What does the path to full awareness entail? First, the recognition that it is possible to be living more of life. It is not necessary to believe that it is possible to gain a permanent higher state of consciousness, but it is necessary to believe that it is possible to be better -- happier, healthier, more energetic, more intelligent. This is not necessary to make Ascension work (it will work anyway), but the "belief of possibility" is usually required for one to be bold enough to take the first step and begin the practice. Well begun is half done. Momentum will carry us forward after the first step, but to begin to break the past habit and belief patterns, this first step is required: we must recognize that change is not only possible but desirable.
Sincere willingness to change also helps. Some of us like to pretend we are willing to change but in fact are just deluding ourselves -- in reality we would much rather hold onto the familiar old boundaries, even if those boundaries are killing us, than face the unknown future. We are so terrified
of the unknown! And yet we can never be terrified of the unknown, but only the known. And the known that we fear is illusion merely -- there is nothing to fear in Reality, only in the illusory coverings that we have imposed upon it.

Pada 1 Sutra 24
"Deep impressions," can also be translated "stresses." Previous unconscious actions have created stresses or impressions in the nervous system; energy rising resonates with these, turning them into afflicting, self-destructive desires; this leads to action to fulfill these desires; such unenlightened action forms further and deeper impression. The stored impressions lead to distorted desires which lead to distorted actions which strengthen the stored impressions. Impression-desire-action-impression-desire-action-impression. The I-D-A cycle is endless and impossible to break without movement from the side of the Ascendant, for the most damaging consequence of unconscious action is new stress in the nervous system which reinforces the stored impression and leads to stronger self-destructive tendencies. This I-D-A cycle of action-impression-desire-action-impression-desire is exactly what makes the bondage of the Waking State impossible to break without Ascension.
It is impossible, it is worthwhile to repeat, to break the I-D-A cycle without movement from the side of the Ascendant. Attempting to root out the causes of self-destructive behavior from the Waking State of Consciousness is at best a waste of time, at worst likely to be psychologically damaging. This is why the approaches of modern psychiatry and psychotherapy are often woefully inadequate for true Healing......
The alternative is to Ascend to the Source of all thoughts. By touching the Source, the energy contained in the Ascendant automatically moves to purify the nervous system. Said another way, the perfect orderliness contained in the Absolute disallows the continuance of any disorder: the deep stresses of stored impressions dissolve; the inherent, self-destructive tendencies automatically fall away; action spontaneously changes to be in harmony with Natural Law. Since no action springing purely from the Ascendant is ever performed that is not in harmony with the upward-directed currents of creation, the results of such action are wholly positive, beneficial and uplifting. This kind of action creates impressions that lead to desires which create more harmony, health and happiness; quickly the whole structure of life moves away from suffering into greater and greater joy.

The Sub-Creation
To call the web of human sub-creation “appearances” is not to say it is imaginary. Actually, it is real, painfully – sometimes inhumanly – real and active. Within this web of collective forces are included many experiences which have been accepted as the way life is – wars, conflicts, violence, strife and troubles in any form, poverty, disease, old age, the cycles of death and rebirth, the struggle of mankind to understand himself and his universe.
Since such imperfections have generally been accepted without question, very few of my lost children have tried to find perfection be coming to realize I have already given to each and every one a mind that knows all things and has all power, and a life force which cannot age since it is the essence of eternal youth.
Instead of reaching this point of realization, some of my children think I have thrown them into the searing earthly experiences so that they can learn to face troubles and face them. Some think it is my way of punishing them for the past sins...
...All of these stories are products of the surface mind, misinterpretations of my Word. Jesus came to earth to set men free from such beliefs, to let my children know that as they think in their hearts, so are they.
How do you think “in your heart”? Is that not the area of deep feeling commonly known as the subconscious mind which is fully conditioned by past happenings, by fears and doubts and unpleasant memories, by mixtures of the good as well as bad, until most of your actions and reactions have become automatic habits? This “heart” is a very important center to understand.
It is like a vast reservoir constantly being filled with whatever you pour into it through the surface mind. The quality of the ideas in your personal reservoir determines the quality of your actions and reactions. If you have filled your reservoir with accepted human beliefs in limitation, then you are limited in all your actions. But if you are willing to empty your heart and let me fill it with eternal truth, you will experience a transformation.

Pada IV Sutra 20
When pure honey comes on the tongue, the taste of great sweetness surpasses in degree all the sweet tastes experienced up to then. If the tongue continues to cherish the taste of honey, then there will be no chance for a previous sweet taste to recur. This is what happens when the mind lives permanently in the experience of transcendental bliss in the state of cosmic consciousness; there then remains no chance for impressions of past experiences to capture it. This is how the enlightened man has 'cast off attachment to the fruit of action' performed in the past.
If one has the taste of concentrated sweetness on the tongue, and then tastes other sweets, these tastes do not leave any significant impression. When a man, established in the bliss of absolute Being, acts in the relative field of life, his experiences will not leave on the mind any deep impression which could give rise to future desires. In this way the cycle of action-impression-desire-action is broken.
